Zero Barriers is a business and service support project developed by The Multicultural Network that aims to eliminate barriers for people with disability when shopping, using services or participating in activities in their local communities. The project works across 12 NSW partner council LGAs, to educate and support businesses and services to become more inclusive and promotes them for being disability friendly. 

Zero Barriers educates and supports businesses and services through:

• Conversations with Zero Barriers Officers about disability access and inclusion

• A self-assessment form to determine accessibility and identify areas for improvement

• The Zero Barriers Accessibility Guide, offering tips and suggestion to become more accessible and inclusive

• The Zero Barriers website and monthly newsletter which contains useful resources, links, and training opportunities

• The Zero Barriers Business Information Sessions in partnership with our partner councils

Zero Barriers recognises and promotes businesses and services through:

• Awarding them with the Zero Barriers logo to use on their shopfront and on their digital material

• Listing them in the Zero Barriers Directory of disability-friendly businesses

• Promoting them on the Zero Barriers FB page, LinkedIn and in the monthly newsletter

• Inviting them to be nominated for the Zero Barriers Business Excellence Awards

Our partner councils for 2022-2023 are: City of Canterbury Bankstown, Cumberland City Council, Fairfield City Council, Georges River Council,  Hawkesbury City Council, Hornsby Shire Council, Lane Cove Council, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, Randwick Council, Ryde City Council and Sutherland Shire Council.
